Walk Your Way Well

Walking your way wellSummer Strolls – Sensible Steps -with Niamh O’Sheehan
Summer is in full swing, bringing bright, beautiful days but also soaring temperatures to our beloved Costa Blanca.
As much as our hiking boots and bodies are calling out for those majestic peaks, it’s a wonderful time to pause and remember that the mountains aren’t going anywhere. They will be right there waiting for us in September and October.
Right now, honouring our love for nature means adapting to her seasons. With the current intense heat and the elevated fire risks in our area, the kindest thing we can do for our environment, and the dedicated forest and rescue teams who protect it, is to tread carefully. We want to continue enjoying the outdoors without adding any unnecessary strain to these vital local services. And avoiding heatstroke!
So, how do we stay fit and connected to nature right now? By being sensible and shifting our focus. Let’s swap those challenging, exposed ascents for gentler lowland walks. If you are heading out, aim for the peaceful, early morning hours before the sun reaches its peak. Always go prepared: pack plenty of water, wear a hat, and consciously avoid prolonged exertion during the heat of the day.
I am already looking forward to September. Once those temperatures finally drop, we will be back out there, hiking our favourite rugged trails together as a group. But in the meantime, embrace your gentler summer walks. Leave early, listen to your body, and continue to soak in the beauty of the outdoors safely. Keep moving, keep smiling, and continue to walk your way well! Social Media @WalkYourWayWell
