The Calpe Benissa Lions were delighted to receive at their September meeting, Belgium Lions Herbert D’Haene and his wife Annemie Pots. Herbert and Annemie are in different Lions Clubs in Belgium, Herbert being a member of an all gentleman club, Lions Centinelle de Gent, and Annemie is a member of an all ladies’ club, Lions Pinte Millenium.

These are both clubs with over 50 members, like our neighbours the Benidorm Lions. We were interested to listen to how they organise their fund raising events, something that is so much easier with over 50 members, and young ones too!! The photograph shows President Carole Saunders presenting our club’s banners to Herbert and Annemie, a Lions Club tradition.

Last year we donated 25,000€ to local causes, and the majority of this was from money made in our wonderful charity shop on Calle Pintor Sorolla,15, Calpe. We will begin to put out our carefully selected winter stock towards the end of October. All donations of clothes and accessories, antiques, bric a brac, working electrical goods, and small pieces of furniture are gratefully accepted.
